Should American flags be made in the U.S.A.?

Have you ever wondered while driving down the road where that American flag you see flying so brilliantly in the slight breeze was made? I would guess most people think it was made right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. However, think again. Did you know that after the September 11th attacks imports of American flags jumped from $747,800 to $51.7 million? Over half of those imports came from China, whereas just a year before Chinese imports were negligible. So, in that period of wonderful unity, patriotism and love for this country, which was displayed by millions of Americans flying our flag, millions of dollars were flowing to a communist nation as well as other nations that don't necessarily agree with our way of life, freedoms and democratic values. This is a shame! Since then, Tennessee and Pennsylvania have enacted laws to require state agencies to purchase flags made in the U.S.A. Other states are proposing to do the same. Minnesota went so far as to prohibit the sale of any U.S. Flags that are not made in the U.S.A. A bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to prohibit importation of U.S. Flags for sale in the United States, but it got stuck in committee. Probably due to all of those trade agreements we have signed not allowing us to prohibit the sale of foreign goods in our country. When is America going to wake up, take a stand and say that one of our most cherished symbols should be made right here by American workers, with American fabric and shipped by American companies? Click Made in the U.S.A. to read the beliefs of Shining Star Flags & Bandanas as it relates to this matter. The next time you see an American flag, think to yourself “Did money go to China to fly that flag?” and then see how you feel. And the next time you go to purchase an American flag, if it is not clear that it was made in the U.S.A., don't buy it. Support our Country!

I agree. It is a shame that so much money went overseas while we thought we were showing patriotism.

Keep our dollars in the US.

My website - whybuymadeinusa.com - is about encouraging people to buy "Made In USA" and giving them the information to do it.

I agree, Our US American Flags should be made here in the USA, ONLY and not over seas. I think it's disrespectful to have our American Flag made out side of the USA. It should be the law for all American Flags, even the little ones, to be USA Made.
If we made more products in the USA, we would have more jobs for Americans. I know the cost is an issue, but if it was done all the time, then lower pricing could be established. Just think how much money and time they would save on importing.I have imported from China before and by the time my glow products got to my door, sometimes 1/3 of products were ruined. I no longer import, but I do try to buy American made as much as possible, which sometimes or most of the time, is Impossible. Maybe one day this world will get a make over.
