Fly Your Flag on Election Day - November 4, 2008

Every four years in the United States we elect or re-elect a President. Election Day falls on the first Tuesday in November. This year it is November 4th. It's not a national holiday and, no, we don't get the day off of work, but we are urged to fly our flag in support of one of the most important days in our country. Fly Your Flag on Navy Day - October 27, 2008

The Navy League of the United States established “Navy Day” on October 27, 1922. This day was chosen to recognize President Theodore Roosevelt's birthday. President Roosevelt was a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy and a stronger supporter of the Navy. He is quoted as saying, "The Navy of the United States is the right arm of the United States. . . . Woe to our country if we permit that right arm to become palsied. . . ." This day also is the anniversary of a 1775 report issued by a special committee of the Continental Congress favoring the purchase of merchant ships as the foundation of an American Navy. While it is not a national holiday, we all are strongly urged to fly our flag to commemorate this day. Click on When to Fly the Flag for a complete list of days to display the flag.
